This week I started a new painting as I really wanted to try to make an even looser painting. I started with a red wash on the background, and then focused on applying a lot of paint in small brushstrokes. I opted to not go in with white to cover up the background as I liked the look of the red and green contrast. I overall am much happier with this painting and would like to do another one similar next.

I think this piece is pretty close to finished! I first started by fixing my mistake of pulling up the paint that was previously there. I went back in with another thick layer of the colors and tried to emphasize the different tones more. I especially went back into the leaves to try to make them slightly more defined. I do wish I had cadmium red light as I think that was the perfect berry red I was missing, but I tried to make do with a combination of normal cadmium red and cadmium yellow. One of the issues is when i tried to lighten the color, it turned pinkish and that did not match what I was seeing at all, so i had to make everything a little yellower. Then I went back in with a thicker layer of white to paint the background. I'm not sure if I want the shadows to fade out a little more because right no it's pretty black and white. I tried to put some highlights on the strawberries, but it's hard to do so without getting more detailed. I think I'm okay with the decision to not paint the seeds in order to not get distracted by details, but I feel like it may still be missing something.
Marketing directors are one of the leadership jobs one could obtain after working in the field for a few years prior. They are in charge of managing the project management, asset management, and partner management teams. Some companies may hire their own advertising director while others may work for advertising agencies that seek out and work for clients (ex. Martin Agency). The goal of these directors are to improve the visibility of a business and increase their sales. They act in a supervising role, but also may work hands on to apply marketing techniques to plan events/activities/campaigns for the businesses. Then, they would have to be able to analyze the results of these projects through market research and figure out what works for each company.
Some important skills for this field are leadership, experience in this area, organizational skills, creativity, and time management. More concrete abilities include a knowledge of web analytics and marketing techniques and most employers are looking for an applicant with a 4 year college degree in either business administration, marketing, or communications. Some of the top programs in these areas are at MIT, UPenn, UC Berkeley, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, NYU, UT Austin, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, UNC Chapel Hill, UVA, WashU St. Louis, Georgetown, Notre Dame, and Boston College. Of course, there are many great schools for this topic in addition to these few. Ok so this week I tried to add more value to the strawberries and their shadows and paint the leaves. I tried to do it in one sitting which went pretty well, but then I tried to add a layer of bright red today which led to me taking off the darker value underneath of the front strawberry which was frustrating. I think for my next step, I'm going to have to block out an hour to put finishing touches on them, because then I can apply enough paint to not have the color be removed Also, in the video, the artist goes back in with a thick layer of white which I want to try too. According to Coach, red paint dries really slowly so that's why the glazing technique didn't work. i also haven't played around with the linseed oil yet, but I might try it on the shadows. I would like to make them a little lighter at the edge and add some more red to accentuate the reflecting light off of the strawberries.
Since i just finished my taste series, I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I did some thumbnail sketches of food from my childhood and thought about doing that as my theme, but Coach suggested instead I just work on painting looser. I found a youtube video, and decided to to try to practice my technique using the same photo. I also switched back to oils. So far it's going okay, but I think I might need some cadmium red light and a stiffer brush.
